I’m testing a new plugin called PicLens. It looks promising, if I can get it working. The PicLens Plugin for WordPress takes all the images in a post and makes a slideshow from them. Could be very useful. It also includes a Slide-show widget, which you can see to the side. The widget, unfortunately, seems to be drawing images from some Stock Photo feed on Flickr, so a good many of the images in it are NOT mine. I’ll be working with the PicLens staff to figure this one out.

Update: Well, originally, the plugin failed to work. Now, I’ve removed it, and re-installed it, and it’s working fine. Go figure.

Update 2: It seems that anytime I want to refresh the plugin, I have to deactivate it and reactivate it. Hopefully the slideshow widget works the same way. I won’t be reactivating the slideshow one for a while yet as I’m refreshing my older posts with photos.

• Modified the Regulus theme by Ben @ Binary Moon for the photo gallery theme. Now I have a consistent them for the entire site.

• Installed the Regulus theme by Ben @ Binary Moon for the site’s theme.
• Made a few tweaks to the theme – mainly in the display colours.
• Created my own header image featuring my own photographs
• Added a calendar section which displays days with posts in bold.

There’s more to be done yet, but I’m reasonably happy with the look and feel now. There’s still a few tweaks I want to make. I’m also going to adapt the Regulus theme to the Coppermine photo gallery to keep a consistent look and feel going throughout my site. And I want to add a contact me form so people can send me a message outside of posting a comment.

I also just viewed my site in Internet Explorer 7, and wow does it look horrible. I should mention that I use Firefox almost exclusively. Anyway, I’ll be looking into a new theme for this site as soon as I can.

The new photo gallery replaces the old photo galleries. Everything that was in the old ones is now in the Coppermine gallery. Any questions, contact me.

Update 2: Just about all my digital photos are online now. Have a look! I still have a lot of scanning to do.

Update: 2006-06-26: I’ve also found some style rules at Digital Westex that I’ve taken and modified for my own purposes. Warning: When I visited, the link led to a poorly designed page that was virtually unreadable due to the colour selection. Also minor edits to image headers.

• I’ve designed a new site theme and called it Mountain Photos. It’s a work in progress. The layout is based on A List Apart’s Holy Grail.
• I’ve taken my photo gallery (Gallery 2) offline as it was incredibly slow. I’m looking for alternate solutions. For the time being, I’m using Picasa’s built in export web page (to xml) feature and Dieter Leibold’s Picasa Photo Viewer to showcase some of my photos in a new photo gallery.

Also, I’ve combined the Hiking Log entries back into the main blog. As such, there are some duplicate entries for the same events. I will be editing through the entire blog to consolidate things and make sure everything is categorized properly. This may take some time.

I’m also starting work on a new theme and layout. This is not a high-priority item for me however. It’ll get done when it gets done. Or it won’t. Who knows.

Edit (2006-01-14): Links to Gallery have been repaired and all traces of the Hiking Log have been removed.

I have also renamed the site from Brian’s Blog to BrianLang.ca.

UPDATE: The gallery has now been updated and is back online.
