We stopped briefly at the Howse River overlook to admire the view. We stopped again for lunch and water at the last of five crossings of a stream. Then we climbed up and over a low, forested ridge and eventually reached Glacier Lake. Can you say WOW!? We set up our tents between gusts of wind off the lake and then headed off for a short excursion along the north shore of Glacier Lake. We rock hopped across a couple of streams until we decided that we had had enough and headed back to camp for supper. Russ built a fire in the fire pit and we sat around talking about life for a while. Distance hiked: 9.1 km + 6 km. Hiking Time: 3 hours. Elevation gained: 210 m. Elevation lost: 225 m.

The view down Glacier Lake at dawn is a sight I will long remember. When we went to retrieve the food bags, Russ discovered that the rodents had been at his brand-new compression stuff sack – they wanted the nuts in his GORP! After breaking camp, we hiked back out to the highway. En route, we saw a very fresh looking pile of bear scat so we started making plenty of noise. We paused for lunch at the Howse River overlook on another hot, sunny, cloudless spring day. Distance hiked: 9.1 km. Elevation gained: 225 m.Elevation lost: 210 m.
Total distance hiked: 28.2 km. My trip notes mention that this is a “Good early season trip”
